The lengths of the links of the slider-crank linkage comply with the conditions: A͞C=0.83A͞B and R=2.92A͞B, where R is the radius of the fixed circular guides a-a along which circular slider 3 travels. Radius R is drawn from a centre lying on the axis of fixed guide b along which slider 1 travels. When slider 1 moves along guide b, point C of link 2 describes path q-q which approximates a straight line over the portion corresponding to the travel of slider 3 through an angle α≈36°.
