Louis François René Panhard was a French engineer, merchant and a pioneer of the automobile industry in France. He founded in 1886 with Emile Levassor the car manufacturing company Panhard. Panhard was originally called Panhard et Levassor.. These first vehicles set many modern standards, buteach was a one-off design. Panhards won numerous races from 1895 to 1903. After World War II the company was renamed Panhard. Panhard also built railbuses between the wars
