Distance, measured along their common perpendicular, between the reference cylinder of the cylindrical gear (or equivalent cylindrical gear) and the datum plane of its basic rack, when the basic rack and the gear are superimposed, so that the tooth flanks of the one are tangential to those of a gear tooth of the other.
