A study of the stories about the tree of life and the water of life in the old Oriental myths, written by a German hebraist August Wünsche (1839–1916). Wünsche devoted his attention almost exclusively to rabbinic literature and in his Bibliotheca Rabbinica (Leipzig, 1880–85) he made a German translation of the whole of the Midrash Rabbah.
