Description:
Depicts Haddon Hall and surrounding countryside. Martindale Castle, ancient seat of the Peverils in Sir Walter Scott's Peveril of the Peak (1823), is generally thought to be modelled on Haddon Hall, a fortified medieval manor house belonging to the Manners family. The original steel engraving was made for the Abbotsford Edition of the Waverley Novels (1842-1847).
