AFFLICTED SEVEN YEARS WITH A DREADFUL COUGH. South Carlton, near Lincoln, Dec. 15, 1854. Gentlemen,-I am requested bv a poor man in this village to write to you respecting the effects of one of your Roper's Plasters. He has been afflicted with a dreadful cough for the last seven years, and for which he has been advised to try one of your Plasters, which he has now had on three weeks, and which I am happy to inform you has been attended with beneficial results, as the cough is not so violent, and the phlegm, which at first was thick and tough, has been changed to ordinary spittle.—I remain yours obediently, SAML. BEECH. To Messrs. Roper and Son. Unprincipled shopkeepers, for the sake of gain, have vended spurious imitations. Purchasers are therefore cautioned to NOTICE the words, "ROPER'S ROYAL BATH PLASTER,' engraved on the government stamp, and the ço-v —— Proprietor's Au- tograph on the back, thus :— PREPARED ONLY BY ROBERT ROPER AND SON, CHEMISTS, SHEFFIELD, On Medico-chemical principles, from British herbs and the gums and balsams of the Eastern clime, where The trees drop balsam, and on all the boughs Health sits, and makes it sovereign as it flows." Sirs,—Having found great benefit from Roper's Royal Bath Plasters and Pills, I wish to make my case known for the ad- vantage of those who suffer, as I have done, for a long time. I have been afflicted with spasmodic pains in the chest, and palpitation of the heart, arising from Indigestion and Liver complaint; I was under medical treatment many months without feeling any better. At last I tried one of Roper's Plasters and a box of Pills, which gave me relief in a few days, from which time my health has improved, and I am now quite well.—I remain, with thanks, yours respectfully, ELIZABETH THOMPSON. This step distinctly shows that the Company has always acted on the principle enunciated by one of the directors at the last an- nua) meeting of the proprietors—'that the interests of the assured have a paramount claim on the directoi-i-a eliitii superior even to that of the shareholders themselves. "From that moment, as might be expected, the Company attained the highest consideration throughout the country, and has retained it ever since. The result is shown in the unexampled fact that its Fire Revenue alone rose in about five years from little more than £ 30,000 to about zE130,000 "A further cause of this rapid growth lies somewhat more below the surface, but is yet of importance. From inquiry we learn that no fire office possessing half the above revenue annually deposits its accounts with the Registrar-general. "The resources and balance-sheets of this great Company are, on the contrary, annually registered, and unmistikc- able evidence is thus given periodically of its capacity to meet its engagement."—Morning Herald, Dec. 26, 1853. Indeed, the bonus of the Royal' may be pronounced to be larger than any yet declared by the mass of the English offices. Here is an office, which yields a fairly earned and wholesome reversionary bonus of 80 per cent, in its Life branch, and, in regard to Fire operations, can make this veiv enviable boast, that it has exceeded the Fire business of all but two of the London Fire offices—viz., the receipt of nearly £ 130,000 per year in Fire premiums alone—some of which ancient oflices have been in existence for a century! Equally successful and singular in both departments. In- deed, the Life department may be said to present results equally as worthy of mention.— Morning Chronicle, Nov. 28, 1855. AGENTS REQUIRED. The magnitude of the Company's business since the declaration of the above large Bonus, which has exceeded expectation, enables it to offer to its representatives unusual opportunities <>f success. It Í8, therefore, prepared to appoint applicants of influence and respectability as Agents at places where it is at present unrepresented. PERCY M. DOVE, ACTUARY AND MANAGER. AGENTS. Carmarthen—J. SELEC T M EDICAL OPINIONS, A. B. GRANVILLE, Esq., M.D, F.R.S, Author of "The Spas of Germany," "The Spas of Eug- land," "On Sudden Death," &c. &c. Dr. Granville has used Dr. De Jongh's Light Brown Cod Liver Oil extensively in his practii-e, and has found it not only cfiicacious, but uniform in its qualities. He be- lieves it to be preferable in many respects to Oiis sold without the guarantee of such an authority as De Jongh. DR. GRANVILLE MAS found THAT THIS PARTICULAR KIND PRODUCES THE DESIRED EFFECT IN A SHORTER TIME THAN OTHERS, AND THAT IT DOES NOT CAUSE THE NAUSEA AND INDIGESTION TOO OFTEN CONSEQUENT ON THE ADMINISTRA- TION OF THE PALE NEWFOUNDLAND OILS. The Oil being, moreover, much tnore palatable, Dr. Granville's Patients have themsehes expressed a preference for Dr. De Jongh's LIght Brown Oil." EDGAR SHEPPARD, Esq., M.D., MR CS, Translator of Gilbert on Diseases of the Skin," Becquerel and. Rodier's Researches Oil the Blood." &o., &c. &c. Dr. Sheppard has made extensive use of Dr. Ih; JONGH'S Light-Brown Cod Liver Oil, AND HAS GREAT PLEAseHE IN TESTIFYING TO ITS SUPERIORITY OVER EVERY OTHElt PREPARATION" TO I;E MKT WITH IN THIS COUNTRY, IT HAS THE RARE EXCELLENCE OF BEING WELL EORNE AND ASSIMILATED BY STOMACHS WHICH REJECT THE ORDINARY OIL,. Dr. Sheppard has no hesitation in s-tating that he believes an Imperial Pint of DR.
