CIVIL SERVICE AND CO-OPERATIVE STORES. THE TIMES in a leading article, 19th Jane, says" The Stores supply a public want, and therefore they succeeded; but they labour under disadvantages in the shape of divided responsibility and diluted personal interest, which attach to all Joint Stock undertakings, and they could not hold their own in the face of any competition directed by the Proprietors of similar establishments who worked with sufficient capital to be content with equally small returns. PATHWAY & CO., HAVE much pleasure in submitting the following REPORT of their ALES, as made by the celebrated Analytical Chemist, Dr. A. H. GENTLEMEN,—I have carefully analysed the samples of BITTER and MILD ALES received from your Brewery, with the following result The BITTER ALE possessed the special properties which are furnished by the best Ales of this description. It was of good alcoholic strength, well hopped, aud free from undue acidity or added salt. The MILD ALE had a rich brown colour, and an agreeable mild taste. It was quite free from added salt or any other adulteration. I have no hesitation in pronouncing both samples to be the genuine production of Malt and Hops to have been very carefully brewed, and to be of the very best quality. "ARTHUR H.
