THE MOSELLE MINES (Limited).—The Mining World, of June 11, says: "Mining in Germany has a history that bears to be told. It is full of encouragement to those who have capital at their back, which, of course, implies that they can procure scientific aid, practical management, and the latest improvements in the way of machamc appliances. The present company is started with a small but adequate oapital, and we observe with satisfaction that the amount to be paid for the property is onl 220,000, of which a large proportion is taken up in shares. Usually the pur- chase-money absorbs more than half the capital, but this company is a welcome exception to the unwholesome rule. Another satisfactory feature is the plain and open statement of the reasons why the property came to be offered on the London market at all. We are told that the Carden Lead Mine is now in full work, with the steam-engine, pumps, winding-gear, trams, smith and carpenters' shops, account house, workmen's dwellings, and freehold land thereto appertaining, and that tne property is acquired 'through the death of David Wilson, Esq., 59, Queen's-gate, South Kensington, whose executors are not authorised to carry on the mine." There are also four mining concessions adjoining. The property extends from north to south over two miles, and from east to west about two miles the southern boundary being the navi- gable river Moselle. The ores are silver-lead, coppe blende, spathose-iron, and iron pyrites, or Several north and south as well as east and west loaes are said to run through the property, in addition to those specified in the reports. There are reports by Herr Schneider and Mr. John Kendall, the latter being a well- known name in English mining circles. They are also re- ports by Captain T. Hodge, of Wheal Grenyille Captain W. Nancarrow, and others, which are most encouraging to the board to proceed with that vigorous development which they have promised to give to the property. The facilities for working of every kind are most favourable, and there appears to be no reason why the company should not enjoy a successful career."
