The 63rd Report states During the past year 436 patients have been admitted into tw number on record, and 61 in advance of last year, but in the year just ended no less thL V* ?g 2 ° vf received into the wards, showing an increase of 70 over the previous year. patients have been Your Committee heartily congratulate you on the great work this noble Institution is accomplishing Ten more beds having been added during the year this they regret to say, has increased the debt from £ 257 to £ 444 At the same time they are very pleased to record that the Hospital Saturday Subscriptions have increased f £253 to £ 320, showing that those, for whom this Hospital was srected, fully appreciate its value and usefulness this is also confirmed by the number of Patients from time to time seeking for admission. Ladies having spare time might do a great deal of good by reading to and conversing with the Patients thus being enabled to see and judge for themselves of the internal working of the Establishment. It is with very sincere regret that your Committee have during the past year received the resignations of Dr Paddon and Mr. J. G. Hall, the former having been connected with the Hospital for upwards of fifteen, and the latter (as House and Visiting Surgeon) for upwards of forty years but as both Gentlemen have been appointed severally to the Office of Consulting Physician and Consulting Surgeon to the Hospital, your Committee hope to have the benefit of tkeir experience and advice for many years to come. At a Special General Meeting of the Subscribers held on the 9th December last, it was resolved, That a De partment be set aside in the Hospital for Diseases of the Eye, and that one or more Ophthalmic Surgeons whose duty it shall be to attend to such cases exclusively, be appointed as the Committee may decide." Also that Rule 19 be altered in conformity with such Resolution by the addition of the words And an Ophthalmic Surgeon." Subsequently on the 36th day of December, 1880, Dr. Griffiths was duly elected to the said Office of Ophthalmic Surgeon.. Your Committee bare to ackaowledge with very grateful thanks the gift of a handsome and valuable clock—a boon alike to the Inmates and the Public—presented to the Hospital, and fixed in the Clock Tower free of all cost, through the indefatigable exertions of Mrs. Green, of the Brooklands Hotel, and of Mr. J. J. Rhodes, who acted as hon. secretary to the Clock Committee. Also the gift of a Merlin Invalid Chair, kindly presented by the Ladies' Relief Committee. Your Committee beg to return their sincere thanks to the following Ladies and Gentlemen, and also to many anonymous donors, for most acceptable and valuable gifts, of Old Linen (always useful and always wanted), of Books, Periodicals, Illustrated Papers, powers, Fruit Vegetables, Game, &c., viz.Mr. Alfred Baker, Malvern House The Manager of the Castle Hotel; the Kev. ^li Clarke Mrs. H.
