COLLINS AND WOODS, Swansea. AUDITORS. -Messrs. TRIBE, CLARKE, CAWKER, and Co., Swansea. SECRETARY—Mr. ARCHIBALD JAMIESON. REGISTERED OFFICE OF THE COMPANY.—29, EX- CHANGE BUILDINGS, SWANSEA. PROSPECTUS. THIS Company has been formed for the purpose of acquiring and working on a large scale the well- known WHITLAND ABBEY GREEN SLATE QUARRIES, situate in the parish of Llandissilio, in the county of Carmarthen, distant five miles from the Clynderwen Station, on the Great Western main line, and three miles from Llanglydwen Station, on the Whitland and Cardigan Branch Railway. The property is held by an Indenture of Lease for an unexpired term of 40 years from the 24th day of June, 1883, at the following moderate rent and royalties :— Sleeping Rent-£200 per annum. Royalty (merging into Sleeping Rent)—4s. per ton of manufactured slate. The lease contains a liberal average clause, as well as the usual powers for acquiring surface land for tip room, tramways, &c., &c., and the taking com- prises all the state underlying part of the Gilfachddofn Farm, containing a total area of about 168 acres. The Quarries have been worked for many years, and still contain an inexhaustible supply of good slate rock. There is ample tip room adjoining the works, and labour is both cheap and abundant in the immediate locality. This property possesses a special feature in that the slate produced is of a beautiful green colour, and the supply is sufficient to warrant a very extensive develop- ment of the Quarries. Its proximity to the Great Western Railway places it within easy reach of the ports of Milford, New Milford, Carmarthen, Llanelly, Swansea, Cardiff, and Newport, as well as being on a main line of railway for the Metropolis and the Midlands. The demand for green slates of this quality has in- creased to a very considerable extent, and the buildings referred to in the list given in prospectus have been covered with slates from this quarry. A perusal of this list will be in itself a sufficient recommendation for the superior quality of the slates. Thi Directors are confident that, by a judicious out- lay of about JE4,000, the quarries can be opened out and eqtlipped with the necessary plant and machinery equal to an output of 3,000 tons of slates per annum, upon which it is considered that, at the very lowest estimate, a profit of El per 1,000 slates will,be realised calculated upon the capital intended to be called up, this repre- sents 15 per cent. per annum. It is considered that the time necessary for opening out the works to yield the foregoing quantities will not exceed from nine to twelve months. Prospectuses and forms of application for shares to be had of the bankers, solicitors, auditors, and at the offices of the company. The directors will allot according to priority of application. REPORTS. Copy of a report made by the late J. Taylor, Esq., C.E., (of the firm of Messrs. J. Taylor and Sons, London). 6, Queen-street-place, London, 27th June, 1878. Dear Sir,—I beg to report that I have visited and inspected your Slate and Slab Quarry in Carmarthen- shire, best known by the name of Gilfach Farm. The geological position is similar to that in which many deposits of roofing slate rock are found, and the quality of it is doubtless improved by the presence of a large mass of intorsion porphysitic rock on the south side of the slate vein, which has hardened and changed the character of the roofing slate. The colour of these slates is a beautiful green-a colour much esteemed by many architects,-and it appears to be very sound and durable, and is said to fetch a high price in the market. The vein of roofing slate appears to be about 40 yards wide, and although broken occasionally by small faults and posts (as they are locally termed), it will yield a large quantity of slates of good sizes. The estate has not been extensively proved as yet, but the slate vein appears to be entering a very promising piece of unbroken ground. The want of a tramway, or cheap communication with the main railways of that part of South Wales, has prevented the extension of both the roofing slate and the slab slate trade; but this defect will probably be removed at no distant day. I look upon the pro- perty as one of considerable value, but both time and money will be required to develope it A moderate outlay of money, say from zC4,000 to £5,000, and two years of time, ought to bring up the quarry to con- siderable returns, and render it a profitable under- taking. J I remain, dear sir, yours faithfully, (Signed) JOHN TAYLOR. (Signed) JOHN TAYLOR. Extract from a Report by Herbert Kirkhouse, Esq., Civil and Mining Engineer, Cardiff. 6th May, 1878. These Quarries, which are known as the Gilfach or Whitland Green Slate Quarries, are situate on the Gilfachddofn Farm, in the parish of Llandissilio, in the county of Carmarthen, and are distant from the Clynderwen Station of the Great Western Railway by the Cardigan-road about five miles. The property contains both green and blue slates, with a vein of slab stones. The green slate has been quarried on the western side of the property, near the River Cleddu, and worked for several years but there still remains an inexhaustible quantity of slate now unworked, running in an easterly direction through Gilfachddofn and Glandy Farms for over a mile and a quarter. The slate which is now being worked from the green slate quarry is of excellent quality. Considering the favourable position of the Quarries, and the greatly increasing demand for green slates, the supply of which is limited, I believe the property to be of great value. Testimonial from Charles Gane, Esq., Ex-Mayor of Wisbeach (of the firm of Charles Gane and Co., Timber and Slate Merchants). Baltic Chambers, Wisbeach, July 10th, 1883. We have, during the last 15 years, sold "Whitland Abbey Green Slates" to many of our customers in various English counties, and have much pleasure in saying that they have given great satisfaction. We believe this to be one of the best and most durable roofing slates we have ever met with during our 25 years experience in the slate trade, and we an- ticipate for them a very great demand.
