Mathematics.—Arithmetic, Euclid, Algebra, Trigonometry (Plain and Spherical), Logarithms, Navigation, and the higher branches of pure Mathematics. Science.—Chemistry (Theoretical and Practical), Mechanics and Natural Philosophy, Animal and Vegetable Physiology, Zoology, aud Botany. E.KGLISH.-History (Ancient and Modern), Geography, Litera- ture, and Dictation. COMMERCIAL The English, French, German, and Italian Languages (Gram- matically and Conversationally), Composition, Elocution, Dicta- tion, History, Geography, Aritnmetic, Bookkeep.ng, Mensura- tion, Mechanics, Engineering, Land Surveying (Theoretical and Practical), Analytical Chemistry, Drawing (Free Hand), Mechanical and Architectural. Students requiring a Commeicial Education are exempt from the Classical course, if desired. The scholastic year consists of two terms, during which there are two holidays, the only vacation being at Midsummer and at Christmas. Fees moderate and strictly inclusive. Instruction in music (organ and piano) is given apart from the gentral routine of the college. The use of ail class books, valuable library, and stationery is included in the fceueral fees (mathematical instruments and chemical alone excepted). A report of marks gained by each student is forwarded home every fortnight. Alston College is pleasantly situated, about six miles from Preston, and half a mile from the Longridge Railway Station. It is considered by medical professors to be one of the healthiest localities in England, a fact sufficiently proved by the remark ably good health enjoyed by the students, and regularly con- firmed by the ftiedical reports. The college buildings include college proper, chapel, lecture and students' halls, reading-ioome, separate bedrooms, private studies, large covered gymnasium, and swimming bath 180 square yards in extent. A criaket ground of five acres is attached to the college farm. Reports of all examinations, with the names of those students who have distinguished themselves at the college, at the Univer- sities as exhibitioners, medallists, and prizemen; alse the reports of the late examinations, together with the views of the college, and all necessary information, forwarded on application to the Rector.
