TEMPORARY OFFICES. 149, GRESHAM HOUSE, OLD BROAD-STREET, E.C. ABRIDGED PROSPECTUS. This company has been formed for the purpose of purchasing and working tiie Barancannes Mine, situated in Portugal, about 17j miles froin the railway station of Carreguira (on the railway to Lisbon), there being a cart-road thence to the mine, which can be reached within five days of leaving England. The con- cession extends oyer an area which is 1,000 metres long and 500 metres wide, and the lode is reported to extend through the entire length of the concession (about 3,093 yards), and to be highly mineralised throughout. The property has been very carefully surveyed and reported upon, both by Captain Clemes, who was for five years manager and chief mining agent of the Cape Copper Mining Company, at their celebrated mines in South Africa, and has had a large and varied experi- ence of copper mining in other parts ot the world, and by Senor Pages, fmining engineer, of Madrid. Captain Clemes was specially selected for this purpose by the directors (he having been long personally known to the chairman of the company, who has every confi- dence in his judgment and integrity) in order that they wight be furnished with a perfectly independent report of the property, and also that the accuracy of the statements in Senor Pages' report might be tested. The in ne has already been developed to a consider- able extent, and Captain Clemes states that at least 300 tons of ore per month, averaging 20 per cent, of copper,' can be a- once raised, .-o toon as the machinery neces- Kary to treat this quantity of ore is erected. Estimates of the cost of the machinery have be n obtained from the Sar.dycroft Foundry COJüp2.ny. which show that it can be purchased for about £2,500, and the directors esti- mate that its total cost, inelut1.ing its erection and that oi the necessary buildings, will not exc-.ed £500D. The samples of ore wh cli Captain Clemes took from the bottom of the lowest level, and which lie states to be a fa r average samp e of the deposit, is reported by Messrs Johnson and Matthey to contain 26 per cent, of copper and a sample taken by him from the ores now on the surface, as fairly representing the bulk, con- tained 29'5 per cent. Other samples sent by Senor P-g.'s have been assayed and examined bv Mr Nap'er, formerly of the Concordia Copper Mines, South Africa, and now the head of Messrs Pontifex and Wood's Metallurgical Wo;k", whose report a-companies the prospectus. The mine ha* already been to a great extent opened out, and the reserves uncovered are computed by Senor Par-é, at 3,728 metrical tons, and by Captain Clemes at 3,6C0 Cornish tons of 21cwt., while there is a quantity of ore taken out from the mine, ready for treatment, estimated by Senor Pages at 778 metrical tons, and by Captain Clemes at 500 tons of 21cwt. These calculations were made quite independently of one sacther, and on different occasions. Estimating the ore at only 20 per cent. copper, and at £11 per ton, the total value of the ore in sight, on which the chief mining costs have already been in- curred, would be 4,200tous, at £ 11, equal to £ 46,200. In addition to this, Senor P.icrfs reports that the estimated quantity of ore in sight, in his opinion, only represents one-tenth of the quantity which can be ex. tracted from the same lode to a depth of 50 metres. This, at ill per ton, would represent ore to the addi. tional value of £400,000, without taking into account the value of the ore which may be found at the greater depth, where, according to Captain Clemes. the lode will be of a greater width and the ore of a richer quality. But, assuming that the future raisings are not in- creased beyond the 300 tons already spoken of, and taking the ore at only 20 per cent.,Utile monthly profits, after allowing for the extra cost of mining, should reach £ "<,030, making a total annual revenue of £ 36,000, which would give a return of 30 per cent. upon the nominal cap tal. This profit would be very largely in- creased if the calculations were based upon Senor Page's estimairs of the richness of the mine at its greater depths, where he reports the ore to contain from 3S to 4) per cent. of copper. It is proposed to pay the sum of £100,000 for the n ine, including the stock of 600 tons of ore already raised. Of this sum the vendor will take £ 40,000 in fiillv-paid shaies, and he pays all preliminary expenses of the company up to allotment and brokerage. The only agreements entered into by the company, or the promoters, directors, or trustees thereof, together with the original teports of Senor Pages and Captain I Clemes, and copies of the articles of association, can be seen by any intending subscriber at the Offices of the Solicitors of the company and prospectuses and forms of application for shares can be obtained at the i Offices of the company, and from the Bankers and Auditors. rjlHREE YEARS' ^YSTi:v FROM Hs MONTHLY. pIANOS By J> ROAD WOOD, 0OLLARD, JgRARD, J £ II!
