TO THE ELECTORS OF SWANSEA. TOWN DIVISION. GENTLEMEN,— I return you my hearty thanks for having again chosen me as your representative in Parliament. My earnest endeavours will be greeted to merit the confidence which you have thus placed in me. I am, Gentlemen, 77416 Yours faithfully, h. L. DILLWYN. JpARLIAMENTARY ELECTION. RHONDDA DIVISION. To THE ELECTORS,— As the chosen Candidate of the Liberal Three Hundred, it becomes my duty to acquaint you with my views on the principal political questions of the day. I am invited to represent an essentially labour constituency; and if returned, I shall do all in my power to support measures calculated to protect the lives and advance the interests generally of the work- men of the Rhouctda, as well as those of the United Kingdom. All legislation tending to reduce the number of acci- dents of all kinds to a minimum, will find in me a loyal supporter. The Mines Regulation Act, contributing as it does so greatly to the comfort and safety of the men, yet reo quires amending in several particulars. I would cordially support measures tending to lessen the friction between masters and men, such as giving the fuDest liberty in the selection of check-weighmen, and providing equal facilities for the prosecution of employers and employed for infractions of the law. I am in favour of perfect Religious Equality, and would vote for the Disestahlishment and Disendow- ment of the State Church. Affirmation should be sub. stituted for Oath in Parliament and Courts of Law. I am in favour of a thorough reform in the Land Laws in the direction of making cheap and easy the Transfer of Land, abolishing Primogeniture and the Law of Entail and would support every other measure cal- culated to make the Land produce the greatest benefit to the nation. I would warmly support Mr Broadhurst's Bill, en- abling Leaseholders to purchase the fee-simple of their property on fair wrms. I am in tavour of Local Option, Free Education, and the Abolition of Perpetual Pensions. I would vote for the Reform of the House of Lords, Intern&ti nal Arbitration, the Reduction and Proper Adjustment of Taxation both Imperial and Local. If elected to serve you in Parliament, I will always endeavour to prove faithful to your interests, and to the high trust reposed in me. 76567 FRED L. DAVIS. EAST GLAMORGANSHIRE PAR- .iU LIAMENTARY ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS OF EAST GLAMORGAN DIVISION. GENTLEMEN,— The Liberal Association of your Division have done me the honour of selecting me to contest the Division in the Liberal interest. In response to that invitation, I offer myself as a Candidate for your suffrages at the coming General Election. My political creed is in complete accord and in fullest sympathy with the programme of the party led by the late Premier- the Right Honourable W. E. Gladstone. There are several questions peculiar to Wales which demand the attention of the Legislature, deserving, I believe, the advocacy and support of tha representa- tives of Welsh constituencies- -such as the Disestablish- ment and Disendowment of the Church of England in Wales, Intermediate Education, utilization of the Welsh language in schools, ranking Welsh with other spoken languages as a subject in entrance examina- tions, and making a knowledge "of Welsh essential in those filling public offices in tbe principality. Questions common bo the whole of the United Kingdom, namely, the amending of the Land Laws, reform of the House of Lords, Local Option, Enfran- chisement of Leaseholds County Government Boards, and Free Education wilJ have my heartiest support. East Glamorgan being essentially a, mining constitu ency, the necessary amendments of the Employers' Liability Act and the Mines Regulation Act, especially to include in the latter a provision for the appoint- ment of competent working men as assistant mines inspectors, would receive my best attention. In conclusion, I beg to say that I am prepared to make the uqj&fce necesswrv to the iaithful discharge of the duties mcumbent upon a Parliamentary repre. sentative, and am determined, if elected, to make the honour and prosperity of the constituency my first consideration. I am, Gentlemen, Your obedient Servant, ALFRED THOMAS. Park-place, Cardiff, Oct. 14,1885. 76694 öCtttbtts aitii Contracts. rro CONTRACTORS, IRON. JL FOUNDERS. AND OTHERS. WILLIAM TAYLOR. j OFFTCE5. UNITED SERVICE BUDDINGS, STRAND, SWANSEA. TRADE VALUERS. COOK & SMITH, London. AUIIITORS. Messrs TRIBE, CLARKE, CAWKER, &CO., Swansea. This Company has been formed for the purpose of taking over as a going concern the various businesses of Mr JOHN TAYLOR, of Swansea, Mumoles, and Ilfra- combe, trading under the style or firm of laylor and Company. ,» The following are the reason given by Mr TAYLOR for taking this step (a.) To increase the capital, and open new busi- nesses either bv purchase or otherwise, in any town or locality which the Directors may think desirable, and to greatly increase the purchasing power (If the Company. (b.) To obtain the assistance and co-operation of the Directors, who are well-kuown men of business, (c.) To give every manager and employe an oppor- tunity of becoming a partner in the concern, and also to enable the public to participate in the profits of their own orders, which is the principle of the most successful London Co-operative Stores. It is also intended as eariy as possible to benefit the Company hg importing American Provisions, as well as other Foreign and Colonial pruduc8 direct to Swansea. The Directors beina of opinion that the future success of the Town and Port will largely depend on the de- velopment of an import tiade, a id seeing in the forma- tion of this Company an important step in that direc- tion, they have consented to co-operate with Mr Taylor in carrying on a.n undertaking which they have reason to believe is a thoroughly sound one, and one that will prove remunerative to the shareholders. The business will be taken over by the company as a going concern, with the existing staff of managers, assistants, and other employes of the nrm, so that no interruption will occur in the transfer of business. Mr John Taylor, who takes 10,{)0. shares, will act as managing ditector, the remuneration being largely dependent upon the dividends paid to the share- holders. The consideration to be given by the company for the transfer of the goodwill of all the business is Sl.OOO. The stock-in-trade and the fixtures are to be taken at valuation by an eminent London Grocery Trade Valuer. In thus taking over an established concern in active operation shareholders will not have to w;nt while a new trade is being made, but from a recent audit of the books showing a profit exceeding 10 per cent, an equal, if not a larger dividend, may confidently be expected from the outset. books showing a profit exceeding 10 per cent. a.n equal, if not a larger dividend, may confidently be expected from the outset. The only contract entered into on behalf of the com- pany is one by Mr John Taylor as vendor, with Mr J. H.
