Iry the death of the Rev. John Jones, of Felinfoel, nea.r Llanelly, which occurred on the 3rd day of Feb;mary last, bis widow and children have been left almcVtf; entirely without provision. There can be no doub t that his death was greatly hastened by the great work done by him during the contest of 1885. Notwith- stand ing the had November weather, with character- istic z eal, and with a total disregard of self, he threw his wi vole soul into the contest, speaking day by day— often E everal times a day-for an entire month, and by his ma: ssive eloquence he accomplished such a work in that D ivision as to make it a pillar of the Liberal cause. But his health (which up to that time had been ex. eptionally good) was completely shattered a long illn ess ensued he recovered partially, saw the present j -ear come in, and then quietly passed away. His labor trs both in the press and on the platform, as an advoca te of broad Liberalism and as agent for the Liberation* Society (which position he occupied for nearly 20 years), are well known throughout South Wales. A few ge ntlemen met at the Llanelly Liberal Club on the afterno un of the 8th February, after the funeral (Mr Powell M.P., being amongst the number), and after ascert, lining- the circumstances in which the Widow had been left, formed themselves into a com- mittee, and decided to make an appeal to Liberal friends for cos itributions. Considering the enormous work done by Mr Jones for Liberalism,. and the fatal sacrifice it involved, the Committee eai "nestly hope that Liberals and Noncon- formists and oi vher friends will make such a contribu- tion and rende r the fund such help as lies in their power.
