the channels to be set with an inclination of of an inch from the keb to the outer edge, and to be laid at such levels as will give the most efficient fall to the respective grids; in back lanes the channels, if so required, to be formed with Leckwith stone 10 inches by 7 inches, formed with a hollow down the centre 4 inches wide and 1% inch deep, and to be laid on a bed of concrete 6 inches deep the kerb stones to be of the best Newbridge stone, unüormly 4 inches wide and 12 inches deep, to average 2 feet in length and no stone or closer to be less than 18 inches in length to be squared on all sides, chisel-jointed, and dressed on back joint, top edge, and face, and firmly set in fine mortar on a solid bed; at street corners, crossings, and angles, the kerb to describe curves of such radii as shown on the plans prepared by the Borough Engineer and Surveyor the surface of the footways to tall from the houses to the outer edge of the kerb stone with an inclination of 1 inch in 2 feet; the channel stones at their highest point to drop 3 inches below the top edge of the kerb stones; the foot- ways to be paved with flagging of not less than 2% inches thick of sound Newbridge stone, or stone of •qual quality, well squared through, out of winding, laid in fine mortar, on a bed of gravel, stone chippings, fine ashes, or sharp sand, 4 inches thick, spread and rammed on a solid bed prepared for the same, the quantity of 18-inch gauge stone not to exceed ii, of the whole, measured lineally the flags to break joint three inches at the least, and the coursing joints to break joint with, and be laid at right angles to the kerb the flagging to be cut for shute channels 4 inches by inch opposite each down shute, and to be properly trimmed round all coal plates, cellar flaps, area grids, or other fittings or shall be laid with best Stafford- shire blue paving bricks laid on a bed of concrete six inches thick, or with such other materials as may be approved by the Borough Engineer the crossings to be laid in widths corresponding to the footways, with Newbridge or granite isetts, in regular courses and of a uniiorm depth, laid in fine mortar, on a bed of concrete 12 inches thick, well rammed, and formed with the proper rise; where the kerb is circular the crossing stones to be dressed to fit the curve the mortar used throughout the works to be of a strong consistency, composed of one part screened Blue Lias quick lime to two parts clean sharp sand, thoroughly mixed and used while fresh.
