"Dear Sir,-Il\ reply to your letter of the 2ht instant, requesting me to report to you on the mineral resources of the Mountain Ash Local Board District as now constituted, I beg to report as follows ;— The whole oi the district, which comprises 10,4i0 acres, is situate in the heart of the area of best quality of South Wales Steam Coal, and includes portions of Messrs Nixons, Penrikyber, Ocean, Powell Duffryn, Ferndale, Albion, National, llavod, and Great Western Collieries, and the Dowlais Company's Nw Colliery taking. I estimate the quantity of Steam Coal of good quality remain'ng unworked in the district at 366,u59,lC0 tons The average rate of Steam Coal output during the last five years from the Mountain Ash Local Board area was 1,455,029 tons per annum, and at this rate of output the best Coal resources will last 250 years.
