ARTHUR BOCKETT, 9, John-street, Bedford-row, London, W.O. PROSPECTUS. The Company has been formed for the purpose of erecting and carrying on a high class Theatre of Varieties on a Freehold site to be acquired by the Company. The site is aljacent to the Hackney Town Hail, in the County of London, and consists of Nos. 283. 285 287, 289, 291, 293, 295, and 297, Mare-street; Nos. 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 26, 31, 32, 33, 34, and 35, The Grove; and Nos. 1, 2, and 3, Grove Passage. The whole of the site will not be required for the purposes of the Theatre, and the Directors intend to utilise the surplus land for the construction of shops and other premises, as described in the annexed report of Mr Frank Matcham, the Architect, which also contains a more detailed description of the site. It is estimated by Mr Stoll that the additional buildings will produce an annual net revenue of £500. The London County Council have granted a Music aud Dancing Licence to Mr Stoll, provisional upon the Theatre being erected in accordance with the plans which haye been approved by the Council, The Licence is subject to the restriction attached by the < ouncil to all new Music and Dancing Licences which have recently been granted, viz., that no intoxicating drinks shall be sold or consumed upon the premses. The Licences of the New Cross, Holloway and Stratfurd Empires are subject to the same restric- tion. Hackney is one of the most densely populated Sistrlcts in London. Kingsland, Dalston, Stoke Newing- ton, and Clapton, which districts are in the immediate neighbourhood of the site, are also very thickly populated, Mr Stoll estimates that the Theatre will cater for a population of upwards of 400,000. The intention is to conduct the Theatre on the same lines as the other Theatres of Varieties under the management of Mr Stoll, who has agreed to act as Chairman and Managing Director for a period of five years, and to take no salary in any year until a dividend of .£10 per cent, has been paid. The Ordinary Shares of the undermentioned Compan ies, of which Mr Stoll was Managing Director prior to their recent amalgamation with other Companies under the title of Moss' Empires, Limited," were taken for the purposes of such amalgamation as being of the following values based on quotations in the Official List of the Edinburgh Stock Exchange Cardiff, Newport, and Swansea Empire Palaces, Umlted, £ 5 shares fully paid jE8 17 6 Nottingham Empire Palace, Limited ditto igg 14 0 London District Empire Palaces, Limited (Holloway, New Cross, and Stratford Empires). ditto t7 0 0 The Shares of the Leicester Palace Theatre, Limited (£5-£3 paid) of which Company Mr Stoll is Chair- man and Managing Director, were quoted on the Edinburgh Stock Exchange on 3rd December, 1900, at a premium of .f117s 6d per share. Mr Stoll is the Vendor and Promoter, and is selling to the Company at a profit. The price is £ 38,000, payable as to £ 28,000 in Cash, and the balance in Debenture Stock and (or) Shares at the Company's option. The cost of the Theatre (completely decorated and furnished) and the additional buildings is estimated by the Architect at 235,000. The Vendor will pay 30'1 expenses up to the date of allotment, with the exception of the cost of the Memorandum and Articles of Association, and the foes and stamp duties payable on registration, but includ- ing the cost of obtaining the Licence and conveying the site to the Company. Dated 14th December, 1900. ARCHITECT'S REPORT. MARE STREET, HACKNEY. I have carefully surveyed this site, and in my opinion it is in a eood position, and exceptionally well suited for the erection of a Theatre of Varieties. The site has frontages of 107 feet to Mare-street, 89 feet to The Grove, and 180 feet to the return of The Grove and Grove Passatre. 1 have prepared the plans for a Palace of Varieties, which have been approved by the London County Council. The proposed building is one of the largest Theatres I have ever designed. It will have three tiers, and will be capable of holding over 3,000 persons. It is desigued on fire-proof prin- ciples, and will be well appointed and up to date in every way. The Theatre covers only a portion of the site, the remainder facing Mare-street being intended for the erection of two shops and flats over. I estimate the cost of the new Palace (completely decorated and furnished) and of the shops and flats at £3&,000. In addition to this amount there will be payable the cost of the alterations to the Britannia public- house which adjoins the site, such alterations being accessary for the purpose of widening The Grove, as required by the London County Council. 1st December, 19CO.
