GEORGE WHITE, Esq., Bristol (Chairman Bristol Tramways and Carriage Company, Limited, Chair- man Imperial Tramways Company, Limited), Chairman. EDWARD EVERARD, Esq., Bristol. HUGH C. GODFRAY, Esq. (Director Imperial Tramways Company, Limited). J. CLIFTON ROBINSON, Esq., M.Inst.E.E., A.Just.C.B., London, Managing Director. SOLICITORS. — Messrs STANLEY, WASBROUGH, and DOGGETT, 18. Clare-street, Bristol. SECRETARY.—SAMUEL WHITE, Esa. OPPICES.-Tlie LONDON UNITED ELECTRIC TRAMWAYS, CHISWICK, LONDON, W., and Clare-street House, Bristol. This company, inaugurated in 1894, is authorised to eptablisht, system of Electric Tramways in the Western Districts of London, embracing the terri- tory bounded Citvwards by Hammersmith Broad- way and Shepherd's Bush respectively, and extending westwards by the main roads to Uxbridge, to Houns- low, and to Hampton Court. The mileage 01 these electric lines amounts to 38 miles of route and 74 miles of single track. Under the Company's Acts and Orders, the periods to elapse before the local authorities have an option of purchasing the lines are, as to 12 miles 25 years, 17 miles 2 years, 4 miles 19 years, and 41 miles 9i years, giving a general average of about 22 years. In case of purchase, the local authorities would, as to 22 miles, pay the market value as a going concern, and as to the remainder Tramways Act terms. The Company's Central Power Station at Chiswicb, now lv.pidly approaching completion, is one of tho finest tramway traction stations in tht> fcu>gdou», has been designed to accommodate al! the generat- ing machinery which will be needed for the entire system of 33 miles. The first portion of the scheme to be carried out comprises 16 miles of route, of which 11 miles have already been completed and are about to be nut into operation electrically the remaining five miles are in course of construction, and should be open for traffic in the ensuing summer. These 16 miles will include the main routes from Shepherd's Bush (Central London Railway Ter- minus) via Acton, Ealing, and Hanwell to SouthaJl, and from both Shepherd's Bush (C.L.R.) and Hammmersmith Broadway via Chiswick, Kew, and Brentford to Hounslow.. When this portion, with the power station, depots, and equipment comprised in the security for the First Mortgage Debenture Stockholders, has been completed, the undertaking of the company will have involved a capital oatlay estimated at over CBOO,OW, and of this amount the outlay to the present time has been over £ 500,000. The cost of property in real estate, depots, power station, and fixed plant, apart from the value of the tramways and rolling stock, will exceed the amount of the present issue. The company has had in successful operation for the past six years nine miles of the Tramways (in- eluding 1; mile between Kew Bridge and Richmond, for which authority to use electricity has not yet been obtained), and, although worked under all the disad- vantages of horse traction, the profits have enabled the company to pay dividends upon its Ordinary Capital of eight per cent. ner annum for the first four years, and 10 per cent. per annum for the last two years. The net revenue from this small mileage, with its initial capital of £ 150,000 only, is now at a rate more than sufficient to cover the entire interest charge upon the present issue of Debenture Stock. When the 16 miles are completed and worked by electric traction, the revenue will, the directors believe, be sufficient, after meeting Debenture Interest and Preference Dividend, to pay substantial dividends on the Ordinary capital and to set aside ample reserves. Ths company's reserve fuud now amounts to £ 3t>,190, aud five-sixths of the Preference Shares have been issued at a premium of 20 per cent. A reference to the map accompanying the Pros- pectus indicates the important advantages to be derived from the fact that the Electric Tramways of this company and the underground Electric Railway of the Central London Company form II, continuous meaus of communication between the Western suburbs and the heart of the City of London. The securities of two other Electric Tramway Com- panies under practically the same administration as this company are quoted at the present time as follow; BRISTOL TRAMWAYS. 4 per Cent.
