The original soenery, dresses, (tc., will be brought frosn Toole's and the Strand Theatres, and the entire performance will he identical ir. every detail with the reoeut London repre.«enta,t-ioias. GRAND THEATRE. One .f the prettiest dramas r.jx>n the English stage will be presented this wsek at the Grand Th-eatre, Cardiff. M. Auguste Van Biene, the actor-musician, will take his original character in "The Broken Melody." The se-nsatiou produced on the occasion of his last visit to Cardiff was such t.hat the Grand will sure to be thronged esoh evening in the week. It may be remembered that iho 'cello playing of M. Augu £ t-e Van Biene when he was la-t in Cardiff brought tears to the eyes of many who heard it. As a histrionic piece, even without atco;.iiiai.av:nt5, h -le .ok«i« Melody" could not fail to command success; but with such music added, no wonder it has for so Jong drawn such largo and enthusiastic audiences. On December 2 M. Autruste Van Bic-ne will visit the Swansea New Theatre and hftaa' Opera House. THE EMPIRES. CARDIFF. A very full and a very diversified pro- gi-arurne has been issued for the Icca- Empire. This week a great attraction w:ll be the singing of eignr Welshmen, late off rhc' 'thondda Gife Society, who oommeae,- an i-iri-pc-rs^nt engage- ment shortly in London. Messrs. Donald- son Brothers and Ardell will give funny sketch-.s from fhe Zoo. and the entertain ment will be one of the funn est that has been witnessed lately at the Fm-pire. The Indian Princes, Nsla Daina- janti. from the Palace Theatre, London, will go through a wonderfully sensational perfor- mance with the giant serpents. The orh^r artistes are Mr. Arthur Reeoe (oharacter come- dian), Wood and Beasley (comedv vocalist* Ada Dell {songstress and dancer), W.vlter King (comedian), and Miss Jessie Prince (comedy song-stress). NEWPORT. A varied programme has been ir«v.ed for present week at Mr. Oswald Stoll's popular hall at Newport. This (Mondav) evening, to morrow (Tue-edayV and Wednesday tb* artiste will include the original Tiller 1 roupe, "'vvrr. the Palace Theatre, London; P'-of^c- Win- garcl, the whimsical wir-ard Mr. F-sd R•••* ringion, Dutch comedian the Sisters Maple, duettists; T. W. Darling. t-eno<r vccsb'st: '\iV. and Mrs- Sam Lucas, Ethiopian enierta.'TieTv; Rose Elliott and P. Ben tie v. in an .Anglo- American act and the eccentric Cliff Pyii>.nd. For the last three nights 5n the week the -o- gramme will be entirely oha-nged. SWANSEA. Visitors at the Swansea Empire will. dotib-f- less, show their appreciation of the pleasurable and mirth-provoking series of entertainments arranged for the current week. The art;stes include Mr. Ed-win Povde, a most popular artiste; the Clayton Tw;ns. and the Afe^sr-. Wood and Willis. in their original sketch as; Mr. Charles Seel, the ouaintest of comedians, 3.nd others, each of whom is also a host in himself. THE PANOPTICON. One of the principal features at the Card:ff Pnrophcon is now the cryst-n mase. Pre- viou^-v it was an ordinan- puzzle cr'-onnd, but a complete transformation lia-s now taken place, and it has become a veritable palace of de- light. The old sombre black pillar^ have given place to festooned pi 11 arc of gold, and the ma-e is now brilliantly illuminated with electric light. A" the visitor enters a scene of dazzling splendour me-tf his gaze, vpon reaching the centre of the mwe, he st- around h 'ni myriads of electric lights and pr^matio colours and gold. It is impossible to describe the wonderfully charming effect which tbc-e coloured light*, floral festonnp, a.nd gilded pillars, re<-produced indefinitely bv the cunningly-arranged mirrors, produce upon the eye. It is a vision of splendour and brilliance, redolent of the "Arabian Nights," and no visitor to the Panopticon should miss the sight. The transformation has been effected at considerable exp nse, but we feel assured that the maze, in its new guise, will prove so successful that it will recoup Mr. Stoll for the money he has expended in im- proving it. For the present week a strong variety company has been engaged. MR. SNAZELLE AT CARDIFF. Mr. Snazeile is an uninue entertainer, nrid nn Sunday night, at the Panopticon, Cardiff, he kept crowded audience entranced with delight at his beautiful and refined entertain- ment. Music, song, story and travels (pic- torially illustrated), all were combined, but. the greatest attraction wais Lord Tennyson's "Enoch Arden." illustrated by 30 tableaux from life models. Throughout the audience was spellbound. On Sunday night next Mr. Snaaelle will give an equally beautiful, but entirely different, selection. ROSENTHAL'S VISIT TO CARDIFF Memories of Paderewski have not yet passed from the minds of the Cardiff music- JIoviing public, &nd the fact that his rival, Herr Rosienfthail, who had the temerity upon his arrival in London to follow immediately in th, footsteps of the Pole. with identical selections, "thereby forcing com- parison. is visiting the Park-hall, Cardiff, tn- night (Monday), will be ure to cmll together a large and critical gathering. The Lemberg pianist, has. of course, long been favourably known here, if only by report, for England is one of the last countries to be visited bv him. Like so many more of his class. Herr Roser.ths1 played in public at a very early age. When but ten he made his first appearance in the capacity of executant, and at fourteen had already given a highly successful concert in Vienna. TTX-PLATE TEA CHES [So i
TTX-PLATE TEA CHES [So ARRIVAL OF A CONSIGNMENT AT SWANSEA. Councillor James Jones, the well-known wholesale g" cer, of Goat-street, Swansea, hat just rece d a large consignment of Indian tea, packed neatly and securely in large tin- plate chests, cach holding one cwt. The tea has been received in a perfect condition, which was not always the case with the old wooden chests. The top and bottom of the chests are of wood, but the four sides are made of one strong piece of tin. capable of standing anv amount of rough usage. If this mode ol pack- ing were universally adopted, the market for local tin-plates would possibly become as brisk as ever. The chests Mr. Jones has received all contain one cwt.. but he sees no reason why smaller quantities of 501' auci &Uib., and even less, could not be similarly packed with advan- jaKe. As president of the Swansea Grocers' Association, Mr. Jones intend- to bring the matter forward at the next meeting, and to recommend to all grocers in Swansea and \ab" in particular, and in the country gene- rally. what he considers to be the packing of the future.
