A Father's Fell Deed THREW HIS BABY THROUGH THE WINDOW. ] Dale Hurled the Child Through the ? Glass, then Followed the Little On Himself. Robert Dale, an iceman, 46 years old, of New York, made a desperate attempt to kill his one year old daughter Roea and himself. He threw the child from a fourth prorey win,, dow and jumped out after her. One week ago the family consisted of Robert Dale, who occa- sionally worked in the ice houses on the river front, and who always drank; the wife. Annie, who. to support the family, took m washing, and two children.—Robert, aged three yeare, and Rosa, one year old. The family occupied the fourth floor of the house. In the early part of the week the boy Robert was taken sick: with diphtheria. His mother took him to the hospital. Later, he developed scarlet fever, a.nd died on Tuesday. There was no money in rhe house with whiA to pay the funeral expenses, but. Mrs. Dale went to Undertaker Karuii, who agreed to bury the child and wail for his money. The ahild was buried, but instead of going to the grove with the body Mrs. Dale was obiiged to stay at home and do washing all day in order that there might be food in the house. Her husband, however, vent to the grave. On his return Dale found his wife holding the year old Rosa in her arms. He at once began to upbraid his wife for the Aeath of little Robed. saying ihitt she should hav? kept the child at home and cared for him rather than send him to a hospital. Mrs. Dale replied that she could not earn money enough to support her husband and fijnily and at the same time gfive proper care and attention to a sick child. Dale glared wildly at his wife, and then, going down to the yard, found an ?xe, with which he returned to the room. The light of madnew was in his eyes. "YOll killed my boy; I'll kill you!" cried, and made aa attempt to brain his wife. She dropped the baby to the floor and jumped for her infuriated husband. For a few minutes the man and woman fought all about the room for possession of the axe. Suddenly Dale ceased struggling and seized the ba.by from the fic«or. "If I can't kill you, I will kill the baby and myself! he yelied. Before Mrs. Dale oould prevent it he had hurled the baby through the window, giasa and all. He looked at his wife a second atod then plunged headforemost after the little one. Mrs. Dale ran shrieking w the street, and two policemen hastened to the yard in the rear, expecting to find only zhe bruised and broken bodies of the 'at&er and child. In- stead they fouind the baby lying in a corner by the fence apparently uninjured, while Dale lay near by, but apparently not much hurt. On the arrival of an ambulance from the hos- pital the doctors could not find any indication* of injury about, the child. It wae found that Dale had a compound fracture of the left ribs and a broken right arm. He was taken to the hospital, while the child wa* leit with its mother, who refused to part with it.

THE LIBERAL SHIP. MR. ALFRED THOMAS, ..a..P. SAYf IT IS OVERLOADED Mr. Alfred Thomas. M.P., for East Glw morgan, addressed a public meeting of his onstituents at Carmel Chapel, Blaenllebhae, on Tuesday evening. The chair was occupied by Councillor Morris Morris, Ferndaie. Mr. Alfred Thoma £ ALP., hi the course of his speech, said he was in favour of one organisation for Wales—an organisation that could speak in the name of Wales, not, to Wales, but through Wales, and for Wale*. (Applause.) But that night he was there to talk of East Glamorgan. He was glad to tmd that. in Biaenilechau. they were not gemg to hgiht as a DlOb, but as an organised body. They had vn this constituency to r»> cognise the existence of a man in the oppoaitt ranks vho was good at organisation, and the proof of that lay in the fact that be reduced their Liberal majority by over 800. He had been todd that he was called upon to render an aooount of his stewardship. Well, he had onily one programme, and that only a very small programme. He was of opinion that the Liberal ship had been overloaded, and1 they ought to put a Plimaoll mark oa it. (Applause.) Did he believe in Rome Rule for Wa.Ies' He did. But there ww8 nothing to be put before Disestablishment-— he was going to stick to that, whatever might happen. It was true they would get Dis- establishment very soon if they had "Home Rule all round." but he believed they would get Disestablishment years before they would get Home Rule all round. (Applause.) Mr. Thomas, referring to the voluntary schools question, said he would give them the same financial assistance as the board schools, if thev were placed unaer popular control, and linger no other conditions.—Mr. Morgan Thomas, of Cardiff (the secretary of the South Wales Liberal Federation), having spoken, it was decided to form a local association, to be called the Blaenlleahaia Labour and Liberal Association, and a list of gentlemen to form & committee was also adopted.

John Pugh explained ti-p scheme m connection with the proposal to establish a women's branch. The question; he said, had been before the various committees for some time, but no definite stt'p8 had been taken. It was, however, of the greatest importance to have women engaged in the work o* the 'orwerd movement.—After several others had spoken in support of the proposal, it was unanimously decided to form a "women c branch," to be worked along lines somewha* similar to those adopted by the Rev. William Ross, of Glasgow, in oonueotior. with hie slum mission work, It was, however, though* to be advisable that one house be rented to make a start with, and tha.t the money to defray the expenses of tbi- work be raised by private subscriptions amongst the ladies of the denomination without mating any appeal to the public. 1* was pointed out that there were several ladiee already anxious to offer their servicer, in connection with the work.—In the evening a public meeting was "held. wh-n addresses were delivered oil the work carried forward under the auspices of the society at Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, and other populous dista-icts in GiMnofgaaMhire and Motiinouth- ahire.
