CHILDREN ACT, 1908. INFANT LIFE PROTECTION. NOTICE TO PERSONS RECEIVING INFANTS FOR REW ARD. 1. Every person who undertakes for reward the :iursing and matnteriance for a longer period than 48 hours of a.n Infant under the age of -sieten years, apart from its parents, or having no parents, must, within 48 honrs, give notice to the Board of Guardians. This notice must state the name, sex, date, aud place of birth of the Infant, and the names and addresses of the person receiving the Infant, and the pemon from whom the Infant has bean I received. Like notice must be given before 1st May, 1909. of the reception of any Infant before 1st April, 1909, unless notice thereof was previously given -under the Infant Life Protection Act, 1997. 2. Notice must- be given within 48 hours of any change of address of the perton main- taining the Infant, and in case of removal to another Unio a, to the Board of Guardians of that Union. 3. If any such Infant dies or is removed from the care of the persom who received it, that person mURt. within 48 hours, give notice of the death or removal to the Board of Guardians, and in the latter case also of the name and address œ the person to whose care the Infant has been transferred. 4. Failure to give any of these notices is not only punishable by fine or imprisonment, but will erutail liability to forfeit any lump sum received with the Infant. 5. Each of these niaticas must be in writing, and must either be delivered at the Union Offices, Queen's-chambers, Queen-street, Car- diff (where forms of notice can be obtained), or be sent by registered letter, addiressed to the Clerk to the at that address. Any false or misleading statement in the notice, if wilfully made, will be an offence against the Act. 6. A person who has undertaken the care of an Infant for reward must not direotly or indirectly insure OIl" a.ttempt to insure its life. 7. In the ease of the death of any such Infant, notice in writing must be given within 24 hours to the Coroner of the Dis- trict, as well as to the Board of Guardians, by the person who had the care of the Infant. 8. Any person receiving an Infant for reward must allow the Infant Protection Visitor or other person appointed by the Board of Guardians to visit or examine the I Infant, or the premises where it is kept, unless the Board exempt the premises from visitation, and a Justice may grant a search vvaTrant for entry into premises where it is suspected that any such Imants are bemg kept. 9. No infant may be kept for reward, with- out the written sanction of the Board of Guardians, by any person from whose care run infant has been removed by an Order under this Act, or who has been convicted of amy offence under the provisions of this Act for the PreN-ention of Cruelty to opil- dren and Young Persons, or in any premises from which an infant has been removed by reason of the same being dangerous or insanitary, or in excess of the number that may be fixed by the Board of Guardians. A Justice or the Board of G uardians may order the removal to a place of safety of amy infant kept under these circum- stances, or in overcrowded premises, or by a, person unfit to have care of it. Any obstruction to the Order will be an offence aga,inst the Act, and an order of a Justice may be enforced by the Visitor or a Constable. 10. Every Person, who disobeys the fore- g-oillig provisions of this law is liable to be fined 125, or sent to prison for six months, and to be deprived of the infant. These provisions do not. extend to the I Grandparents, Brothers, Sisters, Uncles, Aunts, or leg-al Guardians of an Infant, to any -person receiving an infant under the provisions of the Poor-Law, or to Hospitals, Convalescent Homes, Re- ligious or Charitable Institutions for the protection a,nd care of infants, or Boarding Schools providing efficient elementary education.
