The famous autobiographcial Confessions of St Augustine, bishop of Hippo (354-430) are a classic of Christian theology. Written in 13 books, the volume describes the story of his soul, from his sinful youth to his conversion to Christianity. Augustine began the work in 498, 10 years after his conversion, and completed it a year later. It is considered to be the first Western autobiography ever written.
